Transitions: A Prayer for Life-Shift Seasons

On a scale of 1-10, how well do you cope with transitions?

August (and the past few months) has been a time of change and transition for me because in the space of a month I feel like I’ve grown up and adulthood has officially begun 😂. I no longer have a student oyster card or get student discounts when shopping, and soon I’ll have to start paying council tax! It’s REAL, yo! 😭

Other transitions for me have included going from being a full-time student for the past 19 years of my life to having no scheduled classes or assignments for the past three months. And more changes are on the way, as I begin my full-time career and an amazing new job next week (God is so good)! All this to say, August’s been an adventure and, while I’m excited about what’s to come, it’s also meant I’ve been learning to lean fully on God in the midst of the unknown.

Perhaps you’re going through a similar ‘all-change’ season, too. If so, I wrote the prayer below just for you, for those times when there’s a lot of movement, change and newness in your life. I hope it proves useful for you and that, whatever you’re facing, you are guided through September and beyond by God’s peace, direction and wisdom. He’s got it all in control, and He loves us immensely. ☺️

A Prayer for Your Transition Seasons

Father,

I am so grateful that You are God. I am so grateful that no-one else gets to be God but You.

I’ve seen so many times in my life just how faithful, loving and consistent You are. I know You are those same three things in this season and I am so grateful that You are sovereign and that You never change.

Lord, one thing we know is that one thing guaranteed in life is change. So, as I go through this season of transitions and changes [feel free to name a few transitions you’re facing here], I thank You that no matter what’s to come, You are God over each transition and You’re sovereign over every life-shift I face.

As I walk out of old seasons and into new, less familiar ones, help me to always honour You with every part of me. Have Your way in every area of my life, Lord. Help me to do what is right in Your sight, and bring You glory in every action and word. Let me learn transition so I can help others facing it, too. Protect me from what’s not from You, what’s sent to distract, and what’s not Your best for me. Lead me by Your love and Your Spirit along the right path. Be glorified in it all.

Thank You that You are God in the stillness and in the transition.

I love You.

In Jesus’ name. Amen.

If you just prayed that prayer, I’m saying Amen with you!

Lastly, I hope this scripture encourages you that no matter what’s shifting, God is working things for your good, and everything is being made beautiful in its time:

For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven… Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end. (Ecclesiastes 3 vs 1 and 11)

Because we serve a good and awesome God who sees and knows the whole story, we can be grateful for change and excited for what’s to come. How wonderful is that gift. 🥰

See you in September,

Imani ♥️
